Funeral Director & Embalmer

Funeral Director & Embalmer

Applications close midday Friday 8 March 2024

Are you seeking a meaningful and rewarding career where you can make a difference in people's lives during difficult times? Are you a compassionate individual with exceptional organisational skills? Are you looking for your calling as a Funeral Director/Embalmer? If so, this could be the right position for you.

Come and join our growing team at Eagar’s Funerals, where we create beautiful and meaningful funerals for our families. We are seeking an exceptional Funeral Director/Embalmer to complement our existing team.

As a Funeral Director/Embalmer, you will play a vital role in guiding families through the funeral planning process and ensuring that all funeral arrangements are carried out with compassion, dignity, and respect. This role also includes embalming and mortuary work. Although prior experience is desirable, the successful applicant will receive comprehensive training and support.

To be successful in this position you will:

  • Be honest, reliable, well presented organised and multitask effectively.
  • Have excellent time management – everything that we do is done with the end goal in mind – the funeral. Once the day and time is set it is our job to ensure everything is ready and we deliver at an exceptionally high standard for our families.
  • Be compassionate, understanding, and empathetic (essential) – that said it’s important to understand funeral service is not a pastoral role. Families engage us to prepare and manage an event that acknowledges their loss in a meaningful way. Funeral service is event management but with a particular subset of emotional skills given the families we work with are bereaved.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a focus on exceptional customer service, and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and autonomously.
  • Understanding and respectful to circumstances involving grieving families, their values, and beliefs.
  • Proficient computer and technology skills.
  • Flexibility, you will be required to participate in a shared after hour's roster, including weekends.
  • Ability to follow instructions, listen and respond to family’s needs.
  • Be physically fit as heavy lifting is required.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgement and adapt quickly to changing and sometimes challenging circumstances.
  • Current full NZ driver’s licence.

Much of what we do goes unseen.  Working in the funeral industry is so much more than wearing a nice suit and greeting people at a funeral!  It’s hard work and at times is a 24/7 role so flexibility with working hours is a must. You'll note that this is the second time we've mentioned flexibility with working hours, so you know it's important.

In return, you'll be working with a forward-thinking team in an environment that is supportive and family-like.  If you enjoy technology then that's a bonus as we have one of the most sophisticated chapels in the country, designed to maximise the funeral experience for all.  All this in a region that boasts beautiful coastline, stunning gardens, and native bush and of course, our magnificent maunga, Mt Taranaki.

We believe that a good Funeral Director/Embalmer understands all facets of our business and you will be able to articulate how your experience will enhance Eagar’s Funerals. If you’re ready for a change of scene and interested in joining our team, send us an introductory letter and current CV in strictest confidence to apply@eagars.co.nz.
