Virginia May (GINI) Handley

26 Nov 1948 - 01 Jun 2019

HANDLEY, Virginia (Gini)

Our beautiful Gini fought breast cancer with courage and great dignity for nearly 10 years but finally found peace on June 1 st surrounded by her family. She threw everything at it, never gave up and never had a single complaint. She unreservedly loved and was loved by Richard (Rick), Kit and Angela with Charlotte and Jimmy, Georgie and Angus with Scarlett and Sasha, Nicky and Tom with Tilly and Henry…. and all of her friends and Chalky.

Messages for Gini’s family may be left on her tribute page at www.eagars.co.nz/gini .  In preference to flowers donations to Hospice Taranaki would be appreciated and may be left at the service.

A celebration service for Gini will be held at Eagars Te Henui Chapel, 174 Lemon Street, New Plymouth on Thursday 6 June 2019 at 2.00pm, a private cremation will be held.

A light has gone from our lives... we prayed daily for Ginni to beat the dreaded C but it was not to be...such a beautiful person, with a special spirit! dont think I ever heard her say a bad word about anyone....
we first met Ginni and Rick in Honiara nearly 50 years ago - so full of fun and ready to take on challenges - we had so many happy times together - than met up later in Nepal and visits to New Zealand. Always a fashion icon - even in her dark days she would make an effort to spruce up!!
To Rick and her family, whom she adored, we send you our dearest love at this difficult time.... Ginni will be watching over you all - she is only in another dimension - close to you in the spiritual world, where there is no pain, only lightness and peace..
Rest well darling Ginni - we will all be joining you in the future!

Dear Richard and Family,
We are greatly saddened to learn of Gini’s passing away. She was an amazing lady and we will all miss her a lot. She left an unforgettable impression on all of us including our daughter Aurelia. Gini gave her “Hooray for Fish”, which has became her favourite book. The pages are tattered as we read it everyday and take it everywhere with us. Sending you our Love. Steivan, Arnika and Aurelia.

Rick and family,
My love and understanding for you all at this time of sadness.
What happiness and enthusiasm for life Gini showed, always.
She was the one person I would choose to spend time with, thinking of her I am smiling.
Her visit here in Rotorua recently demonstrated her generosity, time spent on my deck, laughing and sharing life. She was loving being with all her family celebrating long marriage and love. I love her.
Peace Perfect Peace Gini.
Arohanui , Sue.

Dear Richard

Can I please extend to you and your family my sincere condolences on the passing of Gini. To say we were shocked on learning this is the understatement of the year. Gini was such a joyous person and someone it was always a pleasure to be around. It would seem from the notice you put in the paper that she even managed her illness with aplomb. I know just what that means because my 98 year old mother has just come through a serious illness and the courage required to face something like that head on is huge - we still have her with us but inevitably that can’t be for long.

Richard, I just cannot imagine (or perhaps I can) just how much pain you will be in just now, but how glad I am to know that you have family around you, whether close or distant (thank goodness for Skype and Face Time), to give you support - and all those lovely grandchildren you now have. Please know that David and I are thinking of you very much right now.

We hope you were strengthened and comforted by all those who attended Gini’s funeral today and that that continues in the days and weeks that lie ahead. Perhaps some time in the future you might feel able to contact me. I have included my email address to that end.

Gentle Blessings and very Best Wishes

Dear Rick and family - Terribly sad news this week after Gini had fought so bravely and with traditional - dare I say 'Bowie'? - stoicism. She was a terrific
inspiration to have endured so much for so long. Her cheerful demeanour and attitude will never be forgotten. We're thinking of you and the whole family with great affection.

Rick my sincere sympathies to you and your family on your loss of Gini. That insidious bloody cancer has claimed another wonderful lovely lady.

Hi Richard and family - I first met Gini painting lounge curtaiins! We shared a love of art and interior design. We will all miss her and I know she would especially ask us to look after Angela at this time.

I will never forget the warmth you put into your words whenever you spoke about your beloved “Gini” when I happened to be in your company. You always managed to convey to me that your relationship with her was something very special.
I am not often in New Plymouth but will try to catch up with you next time I am there. If you ever happen to be in a Palmerston North it would be nice to hear from you. My phone here is 3555268.

Dear Rick and family,
We are so sad to hear of Gini's passing so soon after our visit. Such a bright light has been extinguished! Gini was a beautiful example of courage and selflessness and we will not forget her. Our memories of happy times as families in the Solomon Islands are very precious. We are sorry we will be unable to share in the celebration of her life as Rebecca and the boys will be arriving from Johannesburg later today for a brief visit.
Much love and sympathy to you all.
